| In prior years, solid waste (trash)
management was little more than burying our waste, or even stacking our
waste at the edge of town. With advances in science, and the aid
of hindsight, waste management has evolved into a much more complex
process. We now know the environmental damage that can be caused
by dangerous chemicals, the potential groundwater contamination that can
occur, and we have a better understanding of the logistics involving
transportation and space.
