Mayor Aggen
has been very active in governmental associations and local
government related educational forums since being elected. As
part of the Illinois Municipal League, Aggen graduated from the
Academy of Municipal Excellence, then served on the legislative
committee, went on to serve on the budget committee and is now a
vice-president on the Illinois Municipal League Board. The
Mayor also graduated from the Institute of Government and Public
Affairs at the University of Illinois. He has since served as
President of the Northern Illinois Mayor's Association, and is
currently the vice-president of the Rock River Development
Commission and also sits on the Illinois Tax Increment Finance
Association Board of Directors.
Away from the office, Mayor Aggen is
active in veterans affairs. He's a life member of the American
Legion, has served as Commander of the Sterling American Legion Post
296, is also a member of Amvets Post 167, and is a member of the
Whiteside Veterans Assistance Commission.
Aggen also participates in several
civic groups. He is a member of the Sterling-Rock Falls Elks
Lodge #1218 and Moose Lodge #726. He was also named an
honorary member of the Sterling Noon Rotary.
Mayor Aggen has been a member of the
First Presbyterian Church in Sterling for over 50 years. |
