Clean and Green

Clean and Green Program

The City of Sterling established the Clean and Green Program to improve our community aesthetics. Individuals and/or organizations can assist the City in maintaining our community aesthetics.

The City’s annual Clean and Green program recruits volunteers to clean up downtown planters and Central Park (Grandon Civic Center), plant new flowers and replace struggling plants.  The City provides a free waste drop-off on Friday and Saturday for non-hazardous bulk waste at the Sterling Public Works building.  Self Help takes electronic recycling.

Another part of the Clean and Green program is Adopt a Planter. Through this program, individuals and/or organizations can adopt planters in the downtown area and make a commitment to maintain the planters and beds. You may choose a planter or we can assist you in finding a location that you could adopt.

For more information on the volunteer-based Clean and Green program, please read this pamphlet or fill out this volunteer form.

Clean and Green Mission
The objective of The Clean and Green Program is to continue with enthusiasm the commitment to beautify and protect our City downtown appearance for the enjoyment and benefit of everyone. This program enables a volunteer effort of clearing and replanting downtown planters and the Grandon Civic Center.  The downtown planter boxes and flowers at Grandon need regular care in the form of cleaning up garbage, planting flowers, removing noxious weeds and watering. Groups and individuals can adopt these responsibilities for a particular planter therefore greatly enhancing the appearance of our City.  This in turns boosts community pride and encourages visitors to our community. Those adopting a planter agree to maintain the planter throughout the summer or growing season.

Adopt a Planter

The City of Sterling established the Adopt a Planter program and is asking for your help to improve our community aesthetics. Individuals and/or organizations can adopt a designated planter to assist the City in maintaining our community aesthetics.

Through this Program, individuals and/or organizations will adopt planters in the downtown area and make a commitment to maintain the planters and beds. You may choose a planter or we can assist you in finding a location that you could adopt.

This program is in conjunction with the City’s annual Clean and Green program, in which volunteers and City staff clean up downtown planters and the Grandon Civic Center at Central Park in order to plant new flowers and replace struggling plants.

What is Your Responsibility?
It is your responsibility as an adopter to care for your planter box. This care includes weeding the adopted planter, cleaning up garbage and litter around the adopted planter, watering the planter at least three times a week and more during the extreme summer heat, and then removing green waste such as leaves and weeds.

For more information, please read this pamphlet or sign up with this form.
